David Penny our international chair has been invited to teach at the Bristol Bonsai Society (UK) this April, where he will deliver a special workshop focused on Saikei, the art of living landscape creation. As part of the programme, David will lead students through the International Saikei Association’s introductory certificate syllabus, offering participants both theoretical understanding and hands-on experience.
During the workshop, attendees will have the opportunity to design and create three Saikei landscapes, each representing one of the core traditional styles: Coastal, Lowland, and Alpine. This practical approach will allow students to explore essential techniques, gain confidence in composition, and deepen their appreciation of the natural landscapes that inspire the art form.
Reflecting on the upcoming event, David shared:
“I am very happy to be visiting the members of the Bristol Bonsai Society and having the opportunity to teach and share my passion for Saikei. It is always a pleasure to work with enthusiasts who are eager to develop their skills and celebrate this unique art.”
We have asked David to share some images of the event on his return.
